Musk attended Pretoria Boys High School, where he developed a passion for computers and programming. He started coding at the age of 12 and sold his first video game, called Blastar, at the age of 14. Musk later attended the University of Pretoria for a few months before moving to the United States to pursue his education.

In the United States, Musk attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics. He later attended Stanford University, where he pursued a Ph.D. in applied physics and materials science, but dropped out after just two days to start his first business.

Career and Entrepreneurship

Musk's first business venture was Zip2, a company that provided online business directories and maps to newspapers. Musk co-founded the company with his brother, Kimbal, in 1995, and it was eventually sold to Compaq for $307 million in 1999.

After the sale of Zip2, Musk founded X.com, an online payment company that later became PayPal. Musk served as CEO of PayPal until it was acquired by eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion. Musk used his share of the proceeds to fund his future projects, including SpaceX and Tesla.

SpaceX

In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX with the goal of making space exploration more accessible and affordable. The company's mission is to colonize Mars and make humanity a multi-planetary species. SpaceX has developed several reusable rockets and spacecraft, including the Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft, which have been used to launch satellites and resupply the International Space Station.

In 2020, SpaceX successfully launched its first crewed mission, sending NASA astronauts to the International Space Station aboard the Dragon spacecraft. Musk has also announced plans to launch private citizens on a trip around the moon and to establish a permanent human presence on Mars.
